How it Works:  Botox injections cause temporary relaxation of the facial muscles to diminish lines and wrinkles in the area between the eyebrows and lateral to the eyes (crow’s feet). The effects of BOTOX generally last about 3 months.  Although the results of treatment vary, BOTOX is generally very effective at reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Pre-treatment:  Avoid products containing ibuprophen or aspirin as these may increase the tendency to bruise.

Post-treatment:  After treatment, remain upright for 4-6 hours.  Do not bend down, or engage in exercise during this time.  Also, refrain from touching the injection site.

What to expect:  For this procedure the injection site is cleansed with alcohol, and a mixture of lidocaine (anesthesia) and BOTOX is injected into the desired muscle. Botox injections sting for about a minute.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Occasional bruising and or swelling of injection site.
  • In some cases, weakness of involved facial muscles may be more than desired, but will gradually reverse over time. Similarly, drooping of the eyelids, eyebrows may occur, but will reverse over time.
